Black Swan State Theatre Company presents the West Australian Premiere of Other Desert Citiesby Jon Robin Baitz (best known as the creator and writer of TV hit Brothers & Sisters, and as a writer for The West Wing and Alias!) from 20 July to 4 August 2013.

After a six-year absence, Brooke returns to her parents’ home in Palm Springs, California, with a bombshell. She is about to publish a memoir about a terrible event in her family’s past, a tragedy that her parents do not want to remember.

Twisted Broadway debuts at Arts Centre Melbourne

The gender-bending music theatre event Twisted Broadway makes its debut at Arts Centre Melbourne’s Playhouse Monday 22 July after sold-out seasons in 2010, 2011 and 2012. Twisted Broadway features Australia’s premiere music theatre performers singing songs originally written for the opposite gender. With all proceeds going to Oz Showbiz Cares/Equity Fights AIDS, Twisted Broadway re-imagines contemporary and classic musical numbers in a night of twisted, show-stopping entertainment.

RED STITCH APPOINTS NEW ARTISTIC DIRECTOR

Red Stitch Actors Theatre (Victoria) has announced the appointment of Ella Caldwell as its new Artistic Director. Ella Caldwell will commence her new role at Red Stitch Theatre in July succeeding David Whiteley who has decided to stand down after almost nine years.

Jemma Rix in Cabaret

The popular star of Wicked, Jemma Rix, will bring her first solo show, The Random Variety, to Melbourne’s Butterfly Club this July.

Having played Elphaba the green witch exactly 800 times throughout Australasia, Jemma is thrilled to be tackling some new repertoire before Wicked heads off to wow audiences in New Zealand.

“It’s going to be very exciting!” says Jemma. “Here’s my chance to sing a variety of my favourite songs, without the green make up!”
