NSW State Government Support for Artists with Disabilities

A dozen NSW artists with disabilities will benefit from $150,000 in State Government funding to develop skills in their chosen art form, the Minister for the Arts, George Souris, and the Minister for Ageing & Disability Services, Andrew Constance, announced on Thursday February 28, 2013, at the Shopfront Theatre for Young People, in Carlton.

They’re Playing Our Song Returns to Sydney’s Theatre Royal

The Broadway musical They’re Playing Our Song had its Australian premiere at the Theatre Royal in 1980 and will return in a brand-new production for a strictly limited engagement on May 3 & 4, as part of HIT Productions wider tour.

Tony Award® Nominee and Emmy Award-winning actress, singer and recording artist Liz Callaway will perform in Sydney for one night only on Wednesday 16 January at The Basement.

Liz Callaway made her Broadway debut in Stephen Sondheim’s Merrily We Roll Along; she received a Tony Award nomination for her performance in Baby, and for five years won acclaim as Grizabella in Cats. She has also starred in the original casts of Miss Saigon, The Three Musketeers and The Look of Love.

Kit Brookman wins Philip Parsons Young Playwright’s Award

Playwright, director and actor Kit Brookman has won the 2012 Philip Parsons Young Playwright’s Award for his play Heaven.

Brookman trained as an actor at NIDA, graduating in 2008. He has performed for Sydney Theatre Company, Bell Shakespeare, Sydney Opera House and in numerous independent productions. He is a founding member of the playwrights’ collective ISM.
