2012 Matilda Awards Nominiees
The names of nominees for the 2012 Matilda Awards were released today (January 25, 2013) with the winners being announced on Monday 4 March in a glittering ceremony at the Gardens Theatre, Brisbane City.
They are Queensland’s most highly prized awards for excellence in live theatre - awarded to people considered the best in their field and recognise and celebrate the quality and diversity of our local theatre scene.
The MC’s for the evening will be husband and wife Neridah Waters and Lucas Stibbard, two well-known and talented Queenslanders. A past Matilda Award winner and QUT graduate, James Stewart (Packed to the Rafters) returns as a special guest at the awards.
The Honourable Ros Bates MP, Minister for Science, Information Technology, Innovation and the Arts will be announcing the inaugural award winner of a Recognition Award for an indigenous artist who has made a significant contribution to the performing arts industry.
The Matildas’ panel of experienced and respected critics and Brisbane arts practitioners announced the list of nominees including Best Mainstage and Independent Production; Best Actor and Actress in leading and supporting roles and Best Director.

Commendations are awarded to the most outstanding nominee in each of these ten categories. Five main Matilda Awards are also awarded to the 'best-of-the-best' of Brisbane theatre in 2012. These will be unknown until the night of the ceremony.
