When a not particularly famous playwright writes a play based on a short story by a very famous author it’s sure to be an intriguing contradiction worth examining, especially for a company renowned for producing works with interesting behind-the-scenes stories. To add to its successful history with such productions, Adelaide’s Independent Theatre is soon to produce Rodney Ackland’s Before the Party. Lesley Reed reports.

Pride and Prejudice is often described as “the ultimate romantic comedy”, and with 2017 marking the bicentenary of Austen’s death, it is particularly fitting that HTC has chosen a recent (2009) stage adaptation by Simon Reade for its second play this year.

Players Theatre Port Macquarie is forging ahead for its One Act Play Festival 2017 based at their Lord Street 250 seat theatre. The Festival committee has received much interest and enquiry and as a result are well on the way to staging a very successful Festival on the June long weekend, 9th,10th & 11th June 2017.

A NOËL Coward romantic comedy – initially banned in the UK – will take South Perth audiences on a wickedly witty journey from Paris to London and New York as part of the Old Mill Theatre’s April / May 2017 offering.

Directed by Barry Park, Design For Living is a provocative play that portrays three amoral, glib and stylish characters and their hopelessly inescapable, if also unconventional, emotional entanglement.
