Two Aussie Opera Greats Headline Gala Concert
In an enviable coup, Rockdale Opera Company have been able to secure two internationally famous opera stars to perform in their upcoming Gala Concert at Rockdale Town Hall on Saturday April 8 at 7:30 pm.
José Carbó, an internationally renowned baritone and Opera Australia star, had his operatic beginnings on the stage of Rockdale Town Hall, singing for Rockdale Opera Company in numerous productions. José recently became a co-patron alongside Daniel Sumegi, also internationally recognised as one of Australia’s great operatic stars (and fellow alumni of Rockdale Opera Company).
By agreeing to perform alongside international and Opera Australia star Emma Matthews at the concert, José is thrilled to be giving support to the opera company where it all began.
Carbó said he looked forward to helping the continued survival and success of the company and his beloved art form.
“As an up and coming singer I was fortunate to have performed five roles with Rockdale Opera Company,” he said.
“Since establishing my professional career I now consider it an honour and a responsibility to ensure there continues to be a platform which will enable the company to further prosper and adapt to the requirements and demands of present day live operatic entertainment”.
He went on, “It is vital we succeed so future generations of singers can continue to have the opportunity and a platform where they can learn their trade and ply their craft and gain much needed and valuable performance experience, as I and all that came before me have had.
“I have many practical and strategic ideas, some of which involve collective, community-based campaigns and initiatives, which I believe can help the company thrive long into the future. Having already met with the committee on a number of occasions, it is clear that we share the same passionate commitment for opera and live performance across a wide range of genres. However, I am aware that this group of dedicated and talented individuals also needs to be supported in every way.”

Emma and José will be joined by emerging operatic artists Rebecca Hart, Lewis Barber, Paul Sutton and Daniel Sloman along with associate artist Ingrid Sakurovs and the Company Ensemble in a program of highlights from opera, operetta and the works of Gilbert and Sullivan.
This is an amazing opportunity for opera lovers to see two of Australia’s greatest stars at the top of their game.
