When Your Mum is the Director

Bankstown Theatre Company brings the iconic family favourite musical The Sound of Music to the Bryan Brown Theatre in Bankstown during July 2018 with a full orchestra, sets and costumes, and a cast (including a double cast of the von Trapp children) of musical theatre performers, including seasoned performers Lauren Eade as Maria and Dale Selsby as The Mother Abbess.

Telling Tales of Hoffmann at Rockdale

Jacques Offenbach's grand fantasy opera, The Tales of Hoffmann is considered by many to be his "masterpiece" and is based on three short stories by the German author and poet E.T.A. Hoffmann, who is also the opera's main character.

A firm staple and favourite in the repertory of opera companies worldwide, Rockdale Opera Company have chosen to present The Tales of Hoffmann for their 70th anniversary year.

Jan and her husband Greg rent a remote farm house to aid Jan’s recovery from a nervous breakdown. Their serenity is disrupted by the local farmer who revels in gruesome ghost stories and odd behaviour - along with the arrival of Greg’s malevolent sister Laura.  Strange occurrences begin and suspense builds as spine-chilling shocks intermingle with deadly humour. A nightmare unfolds that will leave audiences aghast.

Wacky Comedy The Foreigner for South Perth

Picture someone who’s shy and doesn’t like to meet people – and then imagine how that disadvantage might be turned into a side-splitting comedy.

It’s all part of Serial Productions’ latest show The Foreigner, written by US playwright Larry Shue and directed by Rob Warner at the Old Mill Theatre from August 3 to 18, 2018.

Musical Postcard From Nelson

David Spicer attended the 58th national conference of Musical Theatre New Zealand, where amateur theatre companies fight for the rights for the best shows to serve up to their highly developed audience.

On the far north of the South Island of New Zealand is the ridiculously beautiful town of Nelson. It has gorgeous beaches and is an hour away from spectacular national parks and skiing. In 2018 it was also the host for the national conference of Musical Theatre New Zealand.

Exhibit Celebrates Rockdale Opera's 70th Anniversary

As part of the celebrations for Rockdale Opera's 70th Anniversary, there’s a special exhibition at Mascot Library and George Hanna Memorial Museum, 2 Hatfield Street Mascot, from 9 June till 7 July, 2018.

Fame at Koorliny in June

IF YOU remember the name Fame, head to the Koorliny Arts Centre (WA) in June 2018 as the popular musical hits the stage with its combination of singing and dancing.

Presented by Laughing Horse Productions and directed by Cat Rippon, Fame – The Musical follows the highs and lows of students at New York City’s High School for the Performing Arts.

Song and Dance Snoopy at Miranda

Snoopy: The Musical is a musical comedy by Larry and Hal Hackady, with a book by Warren Lockhart, Arthur Whitelaw, and Michael Grace. The characters are from the Charles M. Schulz comic strip Peanuts. This sequel to the musical You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown focuses more on the life of Snoopy.

Premiere Re-opens Arts Theatre Cronulla

The Arts Theatre at Cronulla re-opens after extensive renovations that modernise the facilities and showcase the historic bones of its heritage building. The first play for 2018 is a Southern Hemisphere premiere performance of a brand new play by Robin Hawdon, Coup de Grace, whichhas only been performed once before, in Germany.
