Kinky Boots' Creators Honoured with Walk of Fame Stars

Pop icon Cyndi Lauper and four-time Tony Award-winner Harvey Fierstein, creators of hit Broadway musical Kinky Boots, will be honoured with the 2,577th and 2,578th stars respectively on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in Los Angeles on Tuesday morning AEST time. The multi award-wining musical makes its Australian premiere at Her Majesty’s Theatre Melbourne from October 12, 2016 and celebrates its third birthday on Broadway this month.  

The ceremony will be streamed live on walkoffame.com.

Bert and Patti Join All-Star Follies Cast

Storeyboard Entertainment have announced that Bert and Patti Newton will join the cast of FOLLIES IN CONCERT.

Bert and Patti will play the roles ofTheodore and Emily Whitman, ex-vaudevillians who perform an old routine from their days in the “follies” ("The Rain on the Roof").

Musical theatre writer Jonathan Larson (of RENT fame) passed away tragically 20 years ago but his work still resonates with audiences across the world. In April, Melbourne company Pursued By Bear are staging his lesser known show, tick, tick...BOOM!

 2016 MAX AFFORD PLAYWRIGHTS’ AWARD

Tim Roseman, Artistic Director of Playwriting Australia, and Perpetual as Trustee, today announced Chris Summers as winner of the $30,000 Max Afford Playwrights’ Award 2016, awarded to playwrights aged between 18 and 40. The national prize is for Mr Summers’ script, Pedagogy.

Chris, 27, receives $15,000 prize money plus a creative development opportunity at Playwriting Australia’s forthcoming National Script Workshop in April in Sydney valued at $15,000.

Megan Hilty

Broadway and television star Megan Hilty will make her debut Australian tour this June, performing at the Queensland Performing Arts Centre’s (QPAC’s) Concert Hall, for one night only on Thursday 9 June 2016.

Accompaniedby her four-piece band, including her musical director and pianist Matt Cusson and husband Brian Gallagher on guitar, Megan will take audiences on a trip through the American Songbook.

Vale Don Battye

Don Battye’s death in the Philippines on 28th February 2016 closed the chapter on the longest running collaboration in Australian musical theatre history. When Battye met composer and lyricist Peter Pinne in 1960 who knew it was the beginning of a prolific musical writing team that would be at one time called “Australia’s answer to Rodgers and Hammerstein.”

Songs for a New World

Blue Saint Productions’ next production, following their production of Violet, will be the Jason Robert Brown musical Songs for a New World, to be presented at Chapel off Chapel in June 2016.

The show is to be directed by Luke Joslin (Avenue Q, Les Misérables), with Musical Direction by Geoffrey Castles (Les Misérables, Aladdin) and will be designed by Jacob Batista (Avenue Q, Carrie the Musical)

Follies In Concerrt - Further Casting Announced

Following the recent announcement that FOLLIES IN CONCERT will be performed for three performances only in May, exclusive to Melbourne and starring David Hobson (Buddy), Lisa McCune (Sally) and Nancye Hayes (Hattie), further casting for this all-star theatrical event has been announced today.

Adding to the already announced cast are Philip Quast (Ben), Anne Wood (Phyllis), Debra Byrne (Carlotta), Cheryl Barker (Heidi), & David Rogers Smith (Roscoe).
