Perahu-Perahu to Premiere at OzAsia Festival

Stunning imagery and live music turn the traditional art form of ‘wayang kulit’ on its head in the world premiere of Perahu-Perahu at Adelaide’s OzAsia Festival from 27 October.

Indonesian-Australian artist Jumaadi shares his vision with our SA correspondent, Mark Wickett.

‘Perahu-Perahu’ means ‘boats’ in Indonesian, and this production explores the precarious relationship between humans and the sea using the ancient storytelling technique of shadow play.

An American in Paris Coming to Australia

Stop Press: An American in Paris Adelaide and Perth seasons postponed

The Australian Ballet and GWB Entertainment today (January 17, 2022) announced that due to the current impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, next month’s Adelaide and Perth seasons of An American in Paris will be postponed.

New season dates will be announced as soon as possible for both cities, with ticket holders urged to hold onto their tickets until new dates are confirmed.

9 To 5 Is Back In Business!

9 TO 5, Dolly Parton’s West End musical, is back in business in 2022. The Australian premiere will open in February at the Capitol Theatre, Sydney with tickets on sale from 25 October.

Opera Australia Melbourne 2022

Opera Australia (OA) has announced that soprano Stacey Alleaume will make her in-theatre debut as Violetta in Elijah Moshinsky’s celebrated production of La Traviata, a highlight of the Company’s 2022 Melbourne season.

The 2022 program will also feature the Australian premiere of Olivier Py’s production of Richard Wagner’s Lohengrin and a one-night only concert by arguably the greatest bass alive today, Ferruccio Furlanetto, along with a highly anticipated blockbuster musical.

Opera Australia Sydney 2022

Opera Australia has signalled a return to normal programming, announcing its entire 2022 season, confident that COVID shutdowns and debilitating restrictions will be a thing of the past.

As has been the case almost every year for the past decade, Gale Edward’s celebrated production of La Bohème will kick off the summer season on New Year’s Eve however OA’s Artistic Director Lyndon Terracini has signalled that this will be its final run in the Joan Sutherland Theatre.

Bob Dylan Musical to Premiere at Sydney Festival

West End and Broadway musical Girl from the North Country, written and directed by Conor McPherson and with music and lyrics by Bob Dylan, is the first new international production to be announced for Australia since the NSW Government announced the return of live theatre to the state.

Since opening at The Old Vic in London, Girl From The North Country has played sold out seasons in the West End, Toronto and Broadway.

Sydney Theatre Company Returns to the Stage

Sydney Theatre Company Artistic Director Kip Williams today (September 30, 2021) announced the company’s plans to return to the stage with the final two productions of the 2021 season – Julius Caesar, directed by Williams and Death of a Salesman directed by STC Associate Director Paige Rattray – to open in November and December respectively. 

Williams said STC was delighted to be returning to the stage to round out an incredibly tough year.
