Ute Lemper Touring in September
German cabaret legend Ute Lemper is set to serenade Australian audiences in September with a song cycle of love poems by acclaimed poet, Pablo Neruda, along with her greatest hits from Berlin to Broadway.
Lemper has collaborated with Argentinian bandoneonist Marcelo Nisinman to create a song cycle of poems that is presented in Spanish, French and English, and performed alongside a stunning repertoire from Ute Lemper’s career spanning from Berlin to Broadway.
Famed for her interpretations of Kurt Weill, Marlene Dietrich, Edith Piaf and more, here Ute Lemper introduces audiences to Nobel prize winning Neruda, who wrote these sensual poems on the Chilean Isla Negra after years in exile.
Neruda was called “the greatest poet of the 20th century in any language" by Colombian writer Gabriel García Márquez. His writing ranged across a variety of styles from surrealism to political works (some of these collaborations with Picasso) and the erotically-charged love poems on which Ute's Song Cycle is based.
Ute Lemper is celebrated internationally for her intense musicality, dynamic performances and stunning persona. She has made her mark on the stage and film, in concert and as a unique recording artist, and has been universally praised for her interpretations of Berlin Cabaret Songs, the works of Kurt Weill and Berthold Brecht, the French Chanson Book and poems of Charles Bukowski.
