Gary Sweet to Play Bill Heslop in Muriel’s Wedding the Musical

Sydney Theatre Company and Global Creatures have announced today that Gary Sweet will play the role of Muriel’s father Bill Heslop in the world premiere of Muriel’s Wedding The Musical. The production, a theatrical version of PJ Hogan’s iconic hit film, updated to today by the writer himself, features original music by Kate Miller-Heidke and Keir Nuttall alongside those beloved ABBA numbers. The musical is exclusive to Sydney, playing at Roslyn Packer Theatre with previews from 6 November, opening on Saturday 18 November 2017.

The Book of Mormon Breaks Sydney Box Office Records

Yesterday The Book of Mormon, written by Trey Parker, Matt Stone and Robert Lopez, set a record for the highest grossing on-sale of any musical theatre production in Sydney’s history. By the end of the first day of public sales on Tuesday 5 September, The Book of Mormon had sold more than 45,000 tickets with a value of over $5,000,000.

The Book of Mormon, Broadway’s smash hit musical written by Trey Parker, Matt Stone and Robert Lopez, is coming to Sydney.

The Tony®, Olivier®, Grammy® and Helpmann® award-winning show will begin performances at the Sydney Lyric Theatre on 28 February 2018.  

The Australian production of The Book of Mormon has notched up over 250 performances since opening at Melbourne’s Princess Theatre on 17 January, with every performance sold out.

Producers John Frost and Suzanne Jones today announced their canine stars who will play the role of Toto in the upcoming Australian tour of the world’s favourite musical, The Wizard of Oz. Taking on the role of Dorothy’s loyal companion will be Australian Cairn Terriers Flick and Trouble, who will share the role of Toto.

Miracle City - New Production at Sydney Opera House

A brand new production of Nick Enright and Max Lambert’s  Australian musical Miracle City takes over the Sydney Opera House Studio from 12 – 29 October.

Set in the early 1990s, at the height of televangelism, Miracle City tells the story of the Truswells, a family with a dream to build a religious theme park, and the extreme lengths the patriarch, Ricky Truswell, will go to in order to make their dream a reality.

Evita Comes to Australia in 2018

Opera Australia Artistic Director Lyndon Terracini, Australian theatre producer John Frost and leading UK theatre producer David Ian have announced that one of the most celebrated classical musicals, EVITA, will return to Australia, playing at the Joan Sutherland Theatre at the Sydney Opera House in September 2018.

This is the first time a Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber musical will play at the Sydney Opera House.

Memphis - Australasian Premiere Cast Announced

StageArt has announce the cast for the Australasian premiere of the Tony award-winning Memphis the Musical, which will play at Prahran’s Chapel off Chapel from 6 October 2017.

James Elmer (ABC 3 and MTV host) leads the cast as ambitious young DJ Huey Calhoun, who is passionate about African-American rock ‘n’ roll music and is determined to bring it to a mainstream audience. He starts to fall for the incredibly talented and beautiful star on the rise, Felicia, played by Elandrah Eramiha-Feo (In the Heights).

Melbourne Concert Version of Ned Kelly Musical

The iconic story of Ned Kelly is brought to life in new Australian musical. NED makes its Melbourne debut after its premiere season at the Ulumbarra Theatre in Bendigo.

The original cast reunites for a one night only concert at The National Theatre in St Kilda on Jul 17, 2017.

NED explores the highs and lows of Ned Kelly’s journey from local hero to felon to legend. Audiences will see themselves in the struggle of a poor family trying to make it through in a system that was stacked against them.

New Youth Theatre Company Gives Young Actors Wings

Following her daughter’s attendance at a musical theatre camp, an Adelaide actor and drama teacher has recognised a niche opportunity for very young local actors. Creative ideas and a crucial collaboration have resulted in a new youth theatre company, Wings2Fly Theatre and the company’s very first production is hitting the boards in the July school holidays.
