Starstruck Musical
The cult 1982 movie Star Struck is to be made into a musical by the production team behind Priscilla Queen of the Desert.
The Australian film Starstruck burst on to the big screen in 1982. Described by the Guardian as “a neon lightning bolt with all the makings of a classic”, Starstruck is a cinematic love letter to Sydney and her iconic harbour. Directed by Gillian Armstrong (My Brilliant Career), the film was billed ''a musical comedy" and established a new style of film-making.
Set largely in Sydney's The Rocks, Starstruck was designed by Brian Thomson (The Rocky Horror Show) with costumes by Luciana Arrighi and Terry Ryan. The film starred newcomers Jo Kennedy, Ross O'Donovan and Margo Lee, along with Max Cullen, John O'May, Melissa Jaffer, Carol Burns, Geoffrey Rush and Mark Little.
The film featured a rock soundtrack, including songs by Tim Finn. Starstruck received multiple nominations at the 1982 AFI Awards including Best Original Music Score, Best Productions Design and Best Costume Design.
