NIDA Play Season June 2015

Commencing on 10 June, 2015, the National Institute of Dramatic Art’s upcoming production season comprises five full-scale productions led by acclaimed Australian directors and features the next generation of Australia’s actors and creative professionals.

The season will see NIDA alumnus, Helpmann award winner and Artistic Director of Theatre of Image, Kim Carpenter AM, return to NIDA to direct A Dream Play. Exploring a world where time and memories mesh, this production follows the story of a goddess as she descends from the Heavens to find out what life is like on Earth.

“It is wonderful to be back at NIDA in a directing capacity and working with such a talented group of students. We have created an incredible world where anything is possible in A Dream Play so I encourage everyone to come and experience our atmospheric and hauntingly beautiful production,” commented Carpenter.

Ritual, ceremony and enchantment combine in acclaimed director Jim Sharman’s production of The Tempest, with a slight sci-fi feel, this unique take on Shakespeare’s final play is sure to surprise and delight.

Artistic Director and founder of Force Majeure,Kate Champion will premiere a newly devised work, Not Who I Was, this June. This piece has been created in collaboration with the students and explores how someone’s consciousness and self-identity can be shaped by society.

Valeis a newly commissioned work by playwright Nicki Bloom and will be housed in the beautiful surroundings of the Bangarra Dance Theatre, Walsh Bay.
