The musical Hadestown has scooped eight Tony awards - whilst the Aussies who were nominated have missed out.

The modestly budgeted musical intertwines two mythic tales — that of young dreamers Orpheus and Eurydice, and that of King Hades and his wife Persephone.

Edythe Brook Cooper Playwriting Competition 2020

Edythe Brook Cooper was a member of BATS Theatre Co. Inc from the late 1980’s until her death in 2003. Her first play to be produced by BATS was Kisses In The Sky, set in Milton in Brisbane behind the Castlemaine brewery, and the name referred to the four Xs on the roof. This was followed by many others over the next 20 years.

Writing was Edythe’s passion. Many of her plays have been published by The Australian Script Centre.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory for Brisbane in 2020

The stage musical version of Roald Dahl’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory heads to Brisbane in March 2020, playing at the Lyric Theatre, QPAC, following a successful season in Sydney and the season at Her Majesty’s Theatre, Melbourne from August. Cabaret Celebrates Bastille Day

The Magicians Cabaret (Darlinghurst) presents the celebration of French Bastille Day 2019 with the production of Cabaret La Belle Rose on July 11 & 12 at 7.00pm and July 14 at 2pm.

The Dismissal Cast Announced

Squabbalogic in association with the Seymour Centre will present the pre-world premiere of a brand-new Australian musical, The Dismissal, centred on one of the biggest political crisis in Australian political history in the York Theatre from June 18-22. 

Stan Kouros in Boy Out of the Country

Operator Sought For Theatre Royal Sydney

The NSW Government has launched an Expression of Interest process to garner interest from Australian and international theatre operators in reopening Sydney’s Theatre Royal. 

Situated in the heart of the Sydney CBD among retail and fine dining outlets, and transport links, the approximate 1,100-seat theatre designed by Harry Seidler has been closed since 2016. Its reopening will allow NSW to deliver and host more major touring theatre productions.
