Australian Producer Jeremy Youett’s Tony Nomination

When Australian producer Jeremy Youett left Sydney and moved to New York hoping to find work on Broadway, he never dreamed that after only four years he would be one of the co-producers of critically acclaimed Broadway Musical The Visit, starring the legendary Chita Rivera, or that the show would receive five Tony Award nominations, including Best Musical.

“It is of course a dream come true on many levels,” said Jeremy. “Working on an incredible new production written by musical theatre luminaries and then to have the show be so wonderfully received has been an amazing experience”.

The Visit marks the historic final collaboration between John Kander and Fred Ebb, the Tony, Emmy and Grammy Award-winning songwriters behind some of the most iconic musicals of the past 50 years, including Chicagoand Cabaret, collaborating once more with four-time Tony Award winning playwright Terrence McNally (Master Class, Ragtime, Kiss of the Spider Woman). The Visit officially opened on Broadway at the Lyceum Theatre on April 23rd, 2015,  after four weeks of previews.

“The opportunity to become a co-producer on the show was offered by one of the shows Lead Producer’s, Tom Smedes, whom I’ve worked alongside for two years now. He’s been a very generous mentor and an incredible person to learn from, with over 35 years of experience in the New York industry.” Said Jeremy

Jeremy Youett has offices in Sydney and New York, under the name of the company he started seven years ago, Your Theatrics International, for which he acts as Executive Director. Having worked in a variety of capacities in the arts across Australia, Asia, and the US, his time in New York has placed him as the General Manager of a host of New York Institutions. The New York Musical Theatre Festival (NYMF), Tony Award Winning Tom Smedes Productions, Cesa Entertainment and The 56th Drama Desk Awards, to name a few.

As Executive Producer, he has toured multiple Tony Awards winners around Australia and New Zealand, including Broadway composers Jason Robert Brown and Adam Guettel, and nominees Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, and he continues to act as Executive Producer of The International Cabaret Contest, which takes place across Australia and New Zealand each year in January. Jeremy says of his time in the Big Apple, “The Broadway environment is a competitive one, but it truly embraces people who are passionate and dedicated to the arts and it’s a privilege to be able to work every day with people who are the best in this field in the world.”

The 69th TONY AWARDS will be presented Monday 8 June at 12 noon AEST.
