Ewen Leslie to step in for Toby Schmitz as Hamlet

We are always delighted when artists we work with enjoy international success, so we are very pleased that Toby Schmitz will be shooting the second season of Black Sails, a blockbuster TV series directed by Michael Bay. Unfortunately  and unexpectedly shooting begins in South Africa just before the end of the season of Hamlet. Schmitz will give his last performance on Sunday 17 November.

The good news is that Belvoir favourite Ewen Leslie (Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, The Wild Duck) will be stepping in to play Hamlet for the final two weeks of the production. Leslie was highly acclaimed for his performance as Hamlet in the 2011 production at Melbourne Theatre Company. We are privileged that Leslie is making himself available to take on this role between his very busy schedule shooting a television series.

As Leslie will be shooting during days we have had to cancel the 2pm matinee on Wednesday 20 November and the Unwaged Performance on Thursday 28 November.
