Broadway Theatres To Suspend Performances Through April 12, 2020

(New York, NY) – March 12, 2020 - Under the direction of Governor Andrew Cuomo, Broadway shows in New York City will suspend all performances immediately in support of the health and well-being of the theatregoing public, as well as those who work in the theatre industry. Performances will commence the week of April 13, 2020.

Professional Premiere for The Wedding Singer

David Venn Enterprises (Bring It On The Musical) has announced the Australian professional premiere of the Broadway musical, The Wedding Singer.

Premiering at Melbourne’s Athenaeum Theatre from 19 June, tickets go on sale from 11:00am Thursday 5 March via weddingsingermusical.com.au

Italy Closes Theatres

The performing arts industry is holding its breath at the continued spread of the coronavirus - with the actions of Italian authorities proving a chilling glimpse at what might happen in other countries.

Italy's famous opera house La Scala in Milan has been closed due to its proximity to the latest outbreak.

The following statement was released by the opera house: “The Teatro alla Scala’s performances are suspended in relation to the spread of the coronavirus as a precautionary measure pending the provisions of the competent authorities."

American Psycho - The Musical, an adaptation of Bret Easton Ellis’ best-selling novel and the 2000 cult film of the same name, will have its Melbourne premiere at Arts Centre Melbourne’s Playhouse from 21 – 31 May, 2020.

LaChiusa Musical Hello Again at Marrickville

Seductive, intimate and nostalgic – John Michael LaChiusa’s Hello Again explores themes of lust and abandonment, and is a social commentary on how sex transcends time and status. Set in ten different decades throughout the 20th century, the show follows ten characters who pursue each other in a daisy chain of various social classes. Whether it’s the Whore or the Senator, the roaring 20s or the wild 70s – everyone desires to be loved.

2020 GLUG AWARD WINNERS

Charismatic Theatre agent Les Solomon emerged as both one of the big winners and losers of 2019 Glug Awards. Whilst a host of his clients won awards, the impresario was trapped in a lift for over an hour at the Masonic Club and had to be rescued by NSW Fire and Rescue.

Solomon entered the lift with half a dozen others at the conclusion of the awards to begin “after show” celebrations at the Masonic Club/Castlereagh Boutique Hotel, when the lift in the heritage building became jammed.
