Are You Writing a New Musical?

Hatch Lab’s New Musical Theatre Residency applications close on 21 June 2020

Writing a new musical? Notepads and musical charts piling up in the filing cabinet? The Hatch Lab Musical Theatre Residency program wants to hear from you.

The Hatch Lab supports writers and composers and gives them the opportunity to revise, workshop and bring their musical works to the stage. Created in Melbourne by independent production company, Salty Theatre, supported by Theatre Works, The Hatch Lab is a 12-month Musical Theatre Residency Program. It offers an Australian writer/composer or duo with the creative tools to experiment and develop new musicals.

During the 12-month residency, you will work alongside the creative team at Salty Theatre, participate in meetings and writing development, and workshop your book and music score in rehearsals with directors, actors and musical directors.

You’ll have the chance to attend one-on-one mentoring sessions in writing, composition and musical theatre development with renowned Australian and international industry professionals, including producer, Michael Rubinoff, writer Dean Bryant, composer Ashlee Clapp, performer Lee Hart, playwright Michele Lee, writer/performer Megan Phillips, and composers Peter Cavell and Scott White.

Finally, your musical will have a fully staged production as part of the Theatre Works 2021 season.

Applications close at 11:59pm AEST on 21 June 2020.
