2015 REGINALD SEASON OF INDEPENDENT PRODUCTIONS

The performing arts centre of the University of Sydney, the Seymour Centre, has launched its 2015 Reginald Season.

The fifth Reginald season sees an expansion of the relationship the Seymour has built with two of Sydney’s award-winning independent theatre companies, Sport for Jove and Squabbalogic Independent Musical Theatre, each company presenting two works in the season.

From Broadway to La Scala

From Broadway to La Scala will tour Australia with a series of performances across Australia from September 2 – 26, 2015.

From Puccini to Rodgers and Hammerstein, Bizet to Gershwin and Verdi to Cole Porter, this concert experience will feature many of the greatest songs, arias and duets ever composed.

Tenor David Hobson and bass baritone Teddy Tahu Rhodes will join musical theatre star Lisa McCune and the soprano Greta Bradman with a blend of classical elegance and theatrical glamour.

Victorian Premiere of Sondheim on Sondheim

A great year for Melbourne Sondheim fans looks set to continue with the Victorian premiere of Sondheim on Sondheim at the Melbourne Recital Centre in May 2015.

NED To Premiere in Bendigo

New Australian musical NED will play its World Premiere Season at Bendigo's new Ulumbarra Theatre for a strictly limited season from May 21 – 30. 

Based on the legend and history surrounding Australia's infamous Ned Kelly, the show has been in development since 2011 and will be produced by Groaning Dam Productions, with executive producer Capital Venues and Events.

The Production Company: Season 2015

The Production Company has announced its 2015 season of three musicals, to be performed for short seasons at Arts Centre Melbourne.

First up is West Side Story, for a season of ten performances from July 11 in the State Theatre.

Election Promise: Sydney Opera House and Walsh Bay Upgrades

NSW Premier Mike Baird and Deputy Premier Troy Grant today (February 24, 2015) announced plans for major upgrades to the Sydney Opera House and Walsh Bay Arts Precinct.

Mr Baird said a re-elected Baird Government would create a $600 million Arts and Cultural Infrastructure Fund as part of its Rebuilding NSW Plan.

The Sound of Music Returns to Australia

Latest News - Cast Announced

Producers John Frost, Andrew Lloyd Webber, David Ian and the Really Useful Group today (February 18, 2015) announced that the lavish London Palladium production of The Sound of Music will come to Australia in late 2015 for a national tour.

Theatres of War: Wartime Entertainment and the Australian Experience

To commemorate the Anzac Centenary, Arts Centre Melbourne will present Theatres of War: Wartime Entertainment and the Australian Experience, from 18 April – 20 September in Gallery 1.

Front line and chorus line. Warfare and fanfare. Troops and troupes. Theatres of War is a fascinating examination of the sometimes overlooked importance that theatre and performance has in the hearts and minds of those who find themselves in war zones and on the homefront. 

Tim Draxl in Freeway – The Chet Baker Journey at The Hayes

Tim Draxl returns to the Sydney stage in Freeway – The Chet Baker Journey at the Hayes Theatre Co from 17 March 2015.  It is set to be part of the inaugural Spectrum Now festival, for which stage and screen actor Richard Roxburgh is creative director.

Conceived and written byBryce Hallett and Tim Draxl, Freeway began life at the tiny yet legendary jazz and music club El Rocco in Kings Cross in October 2010.
