Adelaide Premiere of A New Brain
David Gauci and Davine Productions celebrate 10 years of music theatre with another Adelaide debut show, a musical comedy about gratitude and fresh beginnings.
Producer/Director David Gauci performed in the professional production of A New Brain in Melbourne and has wanted to bring this quirky musical to South Australian audiences ever since.
A New Brain is by Tony Award-winning composer / lyricist William Finn (25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, Elegies and Falsettos), with a book by James Lapine and William Finn, and features more than 20 songs, 12 larger-than-life characters and an orchestra of nine.
With music inspired by Broadway composers like Sondheim, Bernstein, Porter, Rodgers & Hart A New Brain touches on themes of dysfunctional relationships, family, life and death struggles and the healing power of time and music.
William Finn faced his own mortality after a medical emergency and wrote this semi-autobiographical account of his life and death experience. Surreal and humorous, this is the musical he thought he may not live to write.
Sardonic, sometimes surreal and comical, it is a musical about those moments that remind us of who we are and what's important in life.
The cast and creative team features Daniel Barnett,Catherine Campbell, Jakob Caudle, Jordan Coulter, Mark DeLaine, Deanna Farnell, Adam Goodburn, Lindsay Prodea , Lisa Simonetti, Mark Stefanoff, Sophie Stokes and Jess Wolfendale.
Peter Johns is Musical Director and Shenayde Wilkinson-Sart is choreographer.
