Christ’s College and St Margaret’s College, Christchurch
With their principals’ blessing, Christ’s College and St Margaret’s College, Christchurch rose to the challenge of staging the uplifting yet controversial musical Rent.
“Students explored the celebration of life while struggling with adversity,” says David Chambers, Christ’s College’s Drama Director. “An awareness of responsible and caring relationships is integral to the play. Rent (School Edition) was an appropriate, effective and entertaining way to challenge students’ life choices.”
The Rent stories resonated with the cast. Their empathy communicated easily to the audience. Focused commitment of the actors, musicians and stage management teams combined to create an outstanding product.
Christ’s College takes Drama seriously: collaborative extra-curricula performances, preparation for national qualifications and international drama examinations. “Together these build self-confidence and validate boys’ interests in and development through the kinesthetic arts.”
