You and Me
Lit Live’s You and Me is a wonderful blend of domestic drama and psychological thriller, expertly performed. Originally written as a BBC radio play, it plays beautifully on stage.
Perfect for the small stage in the Dress Circle Bar, two actors arrive to record a radio drama about a wife who is confronting her husband about his predatory behaviour. A short time into the piece, the actors ask to swap roles, with the female actor now reading the role of the husband and the male actor performing as the wife. The role reversal plays tricks with the audience’s minds and provides a unique perspective and an unusual look at the #MeToo and #TimesUp movement.
Excellent performances from actors Caitlin Beresford-Ord and Andrew Hale in the central roles, nicely supported at side of stage by Sarah Neil as the producer and Greg McNeil as the author. Although a ‘radio’ play with scripts in view, facial expressions are excellent and the on-stage chemistry is outstanding, giving us heartfelt and impactful characters.
Funny, provocative and sensitive, this fresh look at what could be a cliched situation resonates strongly. The gender-swap might make us listen with fresh ears. An interesting and fascinating production.
