We Will Rock You
I was aware of the music of Freddie Mercury and Queen but never took much notice until last night’s opening of Spotlight’s final musical for the year. It was a memorable event!
Pre performance, the Artistic Director announced that the leading man had had an accident and the role of Galileo would be played by Jackson Brash – with only 4 hours rehearsal. (Jackson had just returned from overseas.)
The script became invisible as Jackson weaved his magic; delivering a stunning performance resulting in a well-deserved standing ovation. One was unaware of any assistance given by his fellow principals; in a light-hearted moment - at the end of the love scene - he had to refer to the script to see what happened next!
A wonderful supporting cast included Georgia Beck as Scaramouche, Charn Louise as Killer Queen, Jack Harbour as Khashoggi, Nigel Tolsten as Buddy and Rachel Love (pictured) as Oz.
Projected scenery gave the futuristic theme of the story an added realism and full marks goes to the creative team of Clay English Director/ Choreographer/ Brit, Musical Director Sharni Ward and her amazing band and Associate Choreographer / Costume Designer Laura Carrett.
The encore finale of Bohemian Rhapsody was greeted with wild applause by the audience who had sung along throughout and, by now, were all on their feet!
An experience not to be missed!
