Troy Story
Troy Story is Homer’s Iliad told in a one hour romp. Funny, irreverent and slightly mad, this is a “best bits” show that finds the joy in this epic poem and relates the tale in an easy-to-watch hour of fantastic story telling.
Four actors play a ton of characters - with larger than life personalities and a myriad of accents (don’t expect them to be Greek or Turkish). Beautifully created characters that help us to distinguish between them including the very regal Agamemnon, self-obsessed super-powerful Diomedes, brave warrior Archilles and his “bro” the very camp Patrochus. They are almost cartoonish in presentation but pack an acting punch.
The Gods are presented in puppet form - again with wonderful over-the-top personalities and creative quirks. The puppets themselves are really, really cute and very nicely created. Outstanding teamwork, beautiful pace and fun characterisations from Hock Edwards, Grace Edwards, Erin Craddock and Thomas Dimmick.
The Iliad itself is so gorgeously unlikely that it doesn’t need creative additions - but writer Thomas Dimmick’s wry commentary and eyebrow-raised presentation give this show a comic boost.
Simply presented, very clever mythical mania, Troy Story will appeal to lovers of Ancient History and anyone who loves a good story. Oh, and if you think that you’re not a fan of Epic Poetry - you’ll find that you’ll love this anyway.
