Tribes 2016
Tribes 2016 at the Enmore Theatre, showcased talent from the students from The Design Centre, Enmore. The night was fun, electric and full of energy.
The showcase highlighted the talents of students from the various courses offered by
Entertainment, Design and Illustration (EDI). The students produced a professional, vibrant live production, featuring costumes and work from the Diploma of Illustration creating fairy tale stories using puppetry.
The set design by Kirsten Brading was a circular backdrop, entwined with a large twiglike structure symbolising the circular ring of a fire. The lighting of the set changed during the showcase from greens and blues to reds and pinks with accompanying soundtracks from mainly dance, techno and trance music. The production was fun and fast paced.
The production featured costumes designed and made by the students, who modelled their own designs, given only a couple of days tutoring to perform and perfect the catwalk on stage. The costumes incorporated different tribes from all over the world. From the Indigenous people of Australia and New Zealand, China, Africa, Mexico, Central and Northern Europe, Scandinavia, Iceland (Eskimos), Vikings and mystical and space-age
creatures. In between the catwalk performances of costumes there were puppetry scenes of students own designs demonstrating fairy tales such as The Beauty and The Beast, and a story of Three Billy Goats Gruff. The puppetry was beautiful and professional as was the whole performance by the students.
