Tender
This is a highly sensual exploration of tenderness by a queer and gender defying ensemble of singers, dancers and acrobats. The show opens with a very whimsical but extremely effective reversal of gender expectations. The clever use of stylised costuming and gesture create a very unique and surprising exploration of gender signals and undermines categorical notions of sex. This sets the sometimes intense and sometimes facetious tone of the show. A range of tightly choreographed cabaret style acts involving movement, dance, and circus artistry are unleashed. The power dynamics in intimate exchanges are examined and toyed with in an often mischievous and impish manner. These exchanges often provocatively question any binary notions of sex, gender and sexuality and draw out the delicate playfulness of eroticism.
The highlights of the show are undoubtedly the moments which merge aerial and ground circus disciplines. The athleticism on display is extraordinary and breathtaking. These performances are also infused with the titillating theme of the show, and this is often beautifully supported through the intensity of sound and lighting effects. The performances include drag, dance, and live, original music and the various disciplines are enmeshed in a daring and visually captivating manner.
This is an energetic and adventurous show that unapologetically articulates a different vision of what it means to be tender.
