Tel LA Novela
Zac Gower enchants his audience with his story of growing up in a Mexican restaurant, with dreams of Hollywood, his journey to LA and his search for love - all told in the style of a Telenovela. A Latin-American cabaret with a healthy dose of Australian realism.
With his handsome latin American looks, Zac Gower could easily be a telenovela star, and his beautiful voice could easily be that of a Desi Arnez styled crooner, but this boy from Broome is Australian, with a lovely self-deprecating humour who charms the audience in this cleverly structured and well-presented cabaret. With mentions of parades, gyms, Kimberley Cooper and a whole lot of tacos, there is lots to catch your interest.
Songs include the beautifully performed Living La Vida Loca and La Bamba, but also an Australian medley (expertly nuanced) sung in Spanish and a fun selection of surprises. While the singing is excellent, the success of the show, lies in Zac Gower’s wonderful storytelling and excellent rapport with his audience. There was a delightful audience participation segment and a genuine relationship is formed.
I highly recommend catching this pacy, fun cabaret while you can. In the next episode of the telenovela, we could lose Zac to the US permanently and it would be a shame to miss seeing this gorgeous, clever performer.
