Stomp '18

Stomp '18
Comedy Theatre, 240 Exhibition St, Melbourne. 1-6 May, 2018 and touring.

This is a sensational and unforgettable theatrical experience. Audiences will be astonished by the physical accomplishments of these talented performers and the striking visual effects they create. The forceful rhythms convey a tribal quality that enhances the urban jungle appearance of both the set and the costumes.

This phenomenal performance involves impeccable timing and incorporates a range of everyday urban objects. The choice of object is frequently as amusing as the antics created by the ensemble group. The show opens with instrumental use of ordinary objects such as brooms, matchboxes, dustpans, pipes, barrels and dustbins. These opening sequences feature some brilliant incorporation of tap dancing, showcasing incredible mastery of rhythm and movement.

The objects appear bizarre for the ways in which the ordinary is transformed into the extraordinary, and the variety of materials employed create an intriguing diversity in the tonal quality of the sounds produced. One of the highlights was the use of kitchen sinks and the mundane activity of dishwashing which is turned into a highly amusing rhythmic sequence. The use of one of the cast members as a misfit generated a great deal of the delightful humour, however, audiences were also involved in the show and the comic routines. Be prepared to clap, slap, pat, stomp and thump along with the performers in this incredibly powerful show.
