Spectrums of Chocolate Cake
Spectrums of Chocolate Cake presented by The Blue Room and HERA-S Productions is a modern dance and physical theatre piece, performed by four strong performers in the Blue Room Studio.
A birthday party with friends moves into a subconscious realm, where a chocolate birthday cake becomes the focus of each character’s spectrum of feelings.
The four performers work with excellent cohesion, all impressive inter own right. Lovely work from Monsterrat Heras, Kimberley Parkin, Rhiana Katz and Elsa Bignell.
Peter Young has provided an emotive lighting design, while Peter McAvan has created a sound design that blends boppy, fun and familiar tunes with jarring and disturbing sounds. A sensory assault, this deals with strong emotions through bold sound and lighting choices.
The central prop - a rather delicious looking cake provided each evening by Ailish Bea - is a piece of art, ultimately destroyed in every performance. Kudos to stage managers Alex Kiely and Holly Ballam (and whoever launders the costumes) who have some heavy clean up between each show.
Spectrums of Chocolate Cake is a strong dance performance, that deals with some interesting themes.
