The Snow

The Snow
By Finegan Kruckemeyer. Barking Gecko Theatre. Directed by Adam Mitchell. Studio Underground, State Theatre Centre of WA. June 30 - July 15, 2023

The snow is the World Premiere, family theatre piece that combines live action, puppetry, and projections to tell a beautiful fairy-tale like story, that will be enjoyed by audiences of all ages.

When the tiny Alpine village of Kishka becomes snowed in by an epic snowfall, little Thea Sutton determines that the village should build a huge catapult to shoot Thea and the strongest and bravest people in the village out to seek a solution. Thea begins an epic journey that teaches her lessons about her village’s history and provides food for thought for both Thea and the audience.

The ensemble cast of four, Grace Chow, who plays Thea, with Charlotte Otton, Andrea Gibbs, and Isaac Diamond, work together to narrate the story, using a plethora of surprise techniques, a generous splash of silliness and a creating heap of heart-warming moments.

Fabulous integration between Designer Zoe Atkinson, Lighting Designer Lucy Birkinshaw, and Sound Designer Composer Cathie Travers (who appears on-stage creating music as a fifth character of sorts), to create gentle and whimsical stage magic.

Children’s theatre that operates on many levels, this production has lots to love for adults too. The Snow is an intelligent but sweet production that will be adored by families.
