Side by Side
One of the unexpected benefits for theatregoers, of a world disrupted by Covid, is that many International Artists have returned home to Perth. Two of many outstanding performers who are in Perth at the moment are Daniella Sicari and Eimear Foley, whose Fringe World show, Side by Side, presented by Aces at the Maj, is playing for a very short season.
Some of the humour in this cabaret of songs by Stephen Sondheim focuses on this unexpected homecoming, as the ladies also reflect on their enduring friendship. Really likeable, dynamic and charming presenters, they sing beautifully and light up the stage.
Highlights include Daniella’s rendition of ‘On the Steps of the Palace’ and Eimear’s ‘Send in the Clowns’, and the duets including ‘Ladies who Lunch’ and of course the title song ‘Side by Side’, absolutely burst with talent.
Some of the best use of the stage that I have seen in this venue, the show is smooth and slick, and features the expert piano accompaniment of Joshua James Webb (whose single singing line is also a treat).
This is another show, where it is very difficult to get a ticket and deservedly so, as it is a treasure. Hopefully this will get a revival outside Fringe before Daniella Sicari and Eimear Foley and Daniella Sicari return to bigger stages overseas.
