Sh*t We Like To Sing - Under the Rainbow
The second of two Sh*t We Like to Sing offerings this Fringe World season, Under the Rainbow, explores gender, sexuality and what makes us, using the songs that the performers just love to sing.
Playing, very appropriately, at Connections Nightclub, the show features six very talented performers (and depending on the night, a guest performer or two).
Opening with a group performance of “Hey Good Looking” from Dogfight, we then move into a series of solo or featured numbers, highlighting the individual talents of this cast and a variety of perspectives. Highlights include Charlie Darlington's beautiful “The Wizard and I”, a clever rendition of “I’m Not a Girl, Not Yet a Woman” from Ella Nova (alter ego of James Dalgleish), the fun of “Sara Lee”, performed by Matthew Arnold, and “I’d Rather Be Sailing”, sensitively performed by Lux Towns and “Hopelessly Devoted to You”, performed by Taao Buchanan. “Forget About the Boy”, sung by Kiara Macri, is a showstopper, as is the penultimate number, “Turn It Off” from Book of Mormon.
The cast have a great rapport and the audience feel welcome and accepted.
Whether you are part of the LGBTQI community or not, something in Sh*t We Like to Sing - Under the Rainbow is bound to resonate within. A well performed, enjoyable to watch, production.
