She Doesn’t Even Go Here
As the Mean Girls regeneration plays in cinemas, neo-burlesque group Hell in Heels takes enthusiastic audiences back to Northshore High School, as all your favourite characters are brought to life in a burlesque smorgasbord.
Hell in Heels is a queer run dance and performance company, established by directors 6inchminx and Juicy Impure. Unapologetically and rebelliously feminist, Hell in Heels aims to celebrate a variety of performance artists of different styles, appearance, and background. Based in South Australia, this show is a mix of South Australian and Western Australian talent.
Set at the winter Talent Show, this very ‘’fetch” little cabaret takes the inappropriate act of the Plastics to the next level with our familiar characters performing uncensored acts. From a giant martini glass, hoop work to aerial chains and an expert spot of bio-drag, Northshore’s teachers and students give us some raunchy performances.
Host Aria Scarlett, also known as “Burnie”, holds and plays the notorious Burn Book. An expert and likeable hostess, she also lends her beautiful vocals to one of the acts.
Heidi Gunn reveals what is under Coach Carr’s shorts. Jason Coke toasts Aaron Samuels in an unusual way. Carter Cartier brings sass to Damien’s hoodie. Frankie Fatale is unlike any maths teacher I have met as Mrs Norbury and Quadish runs hoops around Mrs George.
Six Inch Minx gives Janis Ian an aerial chain routine that is impressive, while local bio drag queen Moxie Heart sings live to give us an adorable Cady. She is supported by the athletes - the Twerk Noir Teases, who also perform in their own right.
Unfortunately, I missed the last two numbers performed by Delza Skye, Demi Diva and Gigi Love, as Gretchen, Karen, and Regina - the show started late, and therefore ran over time - and I needed to do the Reviewer's James St sprint to get to my next show.
Quicksilver-like Stage Kittens, Nicole Cherie, and Foxy Roxie, keep transitions swift.
While some of the choreography feels a little repetitive, the Northshore Talent Show theme will appeal to many and gives She Doesn’t Even Go Here something different.
