Saccharine

Saccharine
By Emerson Brophy. Fringe World. The Ellington Jazz Club, Northbridge, WA. Jan 23-25, 2025

Emerson Brophy is one of those guys on the internet, with huge followings on YouTube, Tik Tok, Instagram and Facebook. His specialty is satirical songs that poke fun at injustice and the general annoyances of ever day living.

A friendly, warm and engaging performer, Emerson’s songs are clever, on the mark and very funny. He sings beautifully, and accompanies himself on piano and ukelele, surprising the audience with another instrumental talent later in the show.

Working the crowd well, and there is a little bit of (non-threatening) audience interaction, the show is a curious blend of concert, comedy and Ted Talk, as he urges the audience to take action (any action) to make the world a better place.

One of the funniest and cleverest musical satirists in Australia, if not the world, Emerson is just as engaging and entertaining in person - and deserved bigger audiences.

I was surprised to learn that this is Emerson’s first solo live show, as his relaxed professionalism is that of a seasoned veteran. An absolute pleasure to watch.
