Opera by the Lake
A winery and opera in the beautiful surroundings of Glen Ewin Estate on a Sunday afternoon. Who could ask for more?
This event was pitched perfectly. It was simply staged with great acoustics, professional sound and lighting and with pianist Penelope Cashman providing superb accompaniment for the singers.
The program included a smorgasbord of operatic favourites and the singers generally did them justice. Eddie Muliaumaseali’i, bass baritone, had a personality and fabulous voice that brought the singers and the audience together. Virgilio Marino, tenor, joined Muliaumaseali’i for a number of duets and the balance of their voices added to the sense of an enchanted evening.
Special guest Sidonie Henbest had a powerful, beautiful voice that drew “Bravos” from the audience. Sarah Sweeting, soprano, had to reach for some of the notes, however her physicality and presentation of Carmen was fun and entertaining. Stephanie Acraman has a clear, pure voice that was a pleasure to listen to.
Opera by the Lake was a pleasure to attend. Glen Ewin Estate provided a professionally produced evening of good music, wine and food, in beautiful surroundings for their audience. It made me appreciate again how fortunate we are in Adelaide to have such a wealth of beautiful venues and interesting events within easy reach of the CBD.
