The Nerd Extravagant
The Nerd Extravagant was like a breath of fresh air! What a talented group of teenagers!
Doublemask is a group of teenagers who create their own shows: select the topic, write, direct, cast and produce an idea and the end result is amazing.
When it comes to a director, they have a team approach: past students, Artistic Director Lachlan Glasby and the current 'seniors' all direct segments of the show. The artistic director of the company ensures it all comes together, but everything from the stage design, songs, music, lighting, sound is done by young people under the age of 18.
This production dealt with four Nerds hell bent on winning a major chess competition and the frustrations experienced along the way.
With a large cast of enthusiastic teenagers there were some honourable mentions to be made: the four Nerds – Laurie Pratt, Jordan Flight, Oliver Twohill and Tom Walker along with two of the ‘adult’ characters Rainier Tiffen and Katja Osborne.
Many Community Theatre companies could learn a lot from this company.
