Music of the Night
This production was really a celebration of the ten year life of this company and a great exhibition for the audience to remember past shows. Obviously many people have followed the RMT productions over the years as the large audience in attendance felt fully involved. I was amazed at how many musical based shows they have done over the ten years – thirty main house shows and twenty two by the junior theatre. They have been busy.
Director Madeleine Johns, who has been the driving force for the theatre, directed this production which I saw in the Redcliffe Entertainment Centre. From the programme, which did not list what particular songs were to be performed nor who each singer would be, there were some 24 adult cast members along with 30 from the junior theatre and some six Roar students. The large stage was used to the utmost.
The singing was generally very good while the younger students danced and moved so freely. The clarity of voices was so much better in the second half when the actual musicians were on stage. Some performers were very good but no one failed the performance test in any way.
I enjoyed the evening even though I did not know many of the songs. This was cheerful way to celebrate ten years of musical performances. Well done!
