Milo Hartill: Black, Fat and F**gy
While you may not recognise Milo Hartill’s name, you will probably recognise her face or figure. Star of a hugely popular Google Commercial, underwear model and actress, this young woman from Perth has acting performances with Melbourne Theatre Company and at Sydney Opera House to her credit.
Black, Fat and F**gy tells of Milo’s experiences as a beautiful, mixed-race, self-described fat and queer woman, in the mixed-up world of diversity hire and online hate. Representing most of this year’s “hottest minorities”, this witty and candid cabaret features some scandalous and fabulous stories, and amazing songs.
While not for everyone (some of the revelations might be a little too much for some), this is a hilarious, self-deprecating but also self-affirming look at herself, and an eye-opening look at the life of a minority girl.
Switching into character, with some great use of accents, Milo keeps her audience rapt in her stories, and her singing, smoothly accompanied by Lucy O’Brien (a lovely presence), is stunning - a warm but powerful voice that fills the room.
This show did run a little over time, so be careful booking something immediately afterwards, but every bonus minute with this exciting performer was a pleasure. A great little show.
