The Mannequint
Comedy can be a funny thing - pardon the pun; and when a show is advertised as ‘a consistent and unrelenting comedy’ it’s going to be one of 2 things – exactly that ……..or not!!!!
In the case of The Mannequint, a new play written by popular actor and funny man David Todman, it pretty much delivered what it promised.
I’m not big on black comedy, but this was a very slick and fast paced 90 minute show. On a bare stage with multiple scene changes which were very simply done, this was wordy in a good way with many unexpected twists in the plot, fun accents, and really great comedic timing.
The cast of 4 – David Todman, Matt Hendry, Becky Morgan and Noel Thompson worked extremely well together and one could be forgiven for thinking that there may have been some improvisation going on – simply because much of the play didn’t sound like it was scripted. It was as one of my fellow patrons suggested – young people’s humour, very natural and not at all contrived.
Congratulations to Director Clay English and his crew on a smart performance.
