Make Some Noise
Alongside the stunning Sydney Harbour, under the beautiful sails of the Opera House, was the last place I expected to find myself giggling about poop, pee and butt cracks. Stay with me (it is also not usually how one begins a review either) butt (see what I did there) it is important to set the scene. You are going to laugh like a naughty 10-year-old at the same things. The Listies (AKA Richard Higgins and Matthew Kelly) will appeal to everyone, and you have permission to let that giggling kiddo inside free.
Matt and Rich have truly honed their craft during the last 25 years of entertaining large and small humans alike. They have become a delightful post-Christmas institution in Sydney. You know that time when Christmas is done and dusted. When not everything is open. When the kiddos are somehow already bored with that swag of Christmas gifts barely out of the batteries that you had to run over half of Sydney to find? If you have a kiddo in your world, you know exactly the time and space I mean. I urge you to fill it with The Listies. Go indulge your inner child with a crazy hour of wonderfully silly and highly funny antics. They just know how to extract the laughs and their latest offering, Make Some Noise, conceived by the comical duo does not disappoint.
So what is the show about? Why are they The Listies? They like to make lists. Trust me it is funnier when they say it and show it. Imagine standup comedy for kids and then add poop, pee and farts. I warned you it was coming. Grab your kiddo (or someone else’s) and head along - it is very enjoyable.
The set is simple and it is non-stop movement which keeps everyone engaged along with some simple lighting and rather fancy light up costumes from Bunnings. The Listies encourage audience participation with upbeat songs, skits, dance and general quick witted buffoonery. The kids weren’t the only ones laughing or indeed becoming participants in the show, just ask Windy Dad, Gassy Dad or burp on cue Grandpa. Fabulously funny stuff.
The Listies will also come out post show to say hi, sign merch and take photos with Listies fans young and old - worth investigating if you enjoyed the show. Side note: $20 got me a signed book and a whole delightfully quiet car road home. Priceless.
The venue is stunning. The Harbour is stunning and The Lisites are the laugh out loud comedy duo you didn’t know you needed after 2 very long covid years.
Ask Aimee: Kids are tough critics, so I turned to my copilot for a quick review. “I liked how Matt was doing everything wrong on the slide show when Rich was doing his presentation. All my friends would enjoy the show. My favourite things: A giant baby, butt cracks, and being soaked by a water pistol". She thoughtfully gave it 10 stars and called it very hilarious and funny.
Now if that doesn’t leave you wanting to come along what does?
