For Love Nor Money
Three people share their needs for love, money and recognition. Sometimes they meet each others’ needs and sometimes they most definitely don’t. Mel (Clarissa Bonello), Ryan (Matthew Connell and Liam (alexander Lloyd ) meet one night and the joys and difficulties begin.
Their motives are mixed and their affections fickle. There is a good deal of manipulation and ambition. The playwright throws in a non-linear timeline to add to the confusion. However, the three actors and the script carry the audience along to a not too surprising ending.
The various pressures on artists and the driving force of the need to create are spotlighted. There is also a small tilt at political advisors.
The setting designed by Alisha Abate and Nott is defined by light strips and clothing racks with just three chairs added. The racks have all the clothing for the play and the actors change between scenes on stage. This brings intimacy and hints of the passionate links between the characters.
The lighting works well within the space.
The pace of the play and the demands of the dialogue are very well handed by the very competent actors and the result is a thoughtful exploration of the lives of artists and just what some might need to do to survive and do their art.
