Little Shop of Horrors
Spotlight’s Little Shop of Horrors, under the guidance Director, Cilla Scott; Assistant Director, Adam King; Musical Director, Stewart Kelly and Choreographer, Bec Stanley was a wonderful night’s entertainment based around the exploits of the human-eating plant –Audrey 2. The plant, which grew with every scene, stole the show (and of course several of the cast) and was manipulated very effectively by Bec Stanley. Audrey 2 started out in the pot (pictured) but by the end of the show the well-fed plant covered half the stage.
Wonderful performances from Rachel Love, Audrey and Stewart Reeve, Seymour with Adam Brunes as the zany Dentist Orin and the Ronettes, Anna Sofroniou, Carls Tooma and Susannah Treacy, led a strong supporting cast through the catchy songs and dance routines.
The construction of Audrey 2 was a work of art in itself with moving branches (more like tentacles) and a mouth that reacted to every drop of blood and piece of human flesh as though it really was alive!
Once again the technical side of the production was excellent with the set construction by students of the Certificate IV Live Production and Events from the Gold Coast TAFE under the supervision of Michael Sutton.
