The Last of the Red Hot Lovers
Former Gold Coast director Clem Halpin has opened his latest production in the seaside town of Ocean Shores, a couple of klms north of Brunswick Heads, and for this venture he has chosen the Neil Simon hit comedy The Last of the Red Hot Lovers.
This four hander has the luckless Barney Cashman desperately trying to score with three women from a variety of backgrounds with hysterical results.
As Cashman, Gray Wilson gave an outstanding performance, never leaving the stage. He skilfully underplayed the role, developing his uncharismatic character to become the title of the play. He was ably supported by his three prospective love interests: Elaine, played by Kasadevi Curtis – a foulmouthed bundle of neuroses; Bobbi Michelle, Veronica Lovejoy – an actress too kooky by half and Jeanette, Lisa Walmsley – a gloomy, depressed housewife who happens to be married to Barney’s best friend. Barney’s “love nest” just happened to be his mother’s bed-sit and full of her choice of decor.
Originally opening on Broadway in 1969, the play received 4 Tony nominations.
This production is one not to be missed and you’ll be laughing all the way home!
