The Kaye Hole
What do you do to top off a long, hard (but enjoyable) day of Fringing? You visit The Octagon at Gluttony and see The Kaye Hole of course!
Late night often means adult content, and I was not disappointed. A little word of warning, if you are easily offended by strong language then this is not the show for you.
The Kaye Hole (I’ll leave you to draw your own conclusions re the title), is a cornucopia of the riskiest and most diverse acts of the Fringe carefully chosen each night for us by its host/hostess, the amazing Reuben Kaye.
Our acts for the night were: a burlesque performer with a new take on tassel twirling, a Canadian standup comedian, a pink cowboy sword swallower with a surprising ‘ending’, a trapeze artist with incredible grace and an aerial rope artist with the best twist on a ‘death drop’ I’ve ever seen!
Looking like a glam dominatrix with impossibly long lashes, Kaye struts the playing space, working the audience with acid wit, introducing each act and performing his own songs.
He never misses a beat and commands attention with his sheer presence and talent. Backed by his four-piece band, The Reverse Pronouns, he belts out his numbers with dazzling power. A quieter moment near the end of the show, ‘That’s Why I Love Mankind’ with Kaye sitting on the stage in a follow-spot was my favourite. It reminded me of Judy Garland on her tours.
So, whatever you do, don’t finish your Fringe day without seeing The Kaye Hole and experiencing the divine Reuben Kaye!
