I Watched Someone Die on Tik Tok

I Watched Someone Die on Tik Tok
By Charlotte Otton. FringeWorld. Rehearsal Room 1, State Theatre Centre of Western Australia. Jan 21-25, 2025

Charlotte Otton’s Solo Show I Watched Someone Die on Tik Tok is presented by Charlotte Otton and Lazy Yarns for State of Play as part of FringeWorld. Combining monologue, songs and audiovisual, Charlotte looks at her obsession with the darker side of social media - especially Tik Tok.

Charlotte has watched more than one person die on Tik Tok, from aeroplane crashes to the 9/11 disasters, through the Christchurch Mosque Killings and lesser-known murders; Charlotte’s “For You” selection on Tik Tok features some of the darkest stuff the platform has to offer.

An examination of why this has happened and a reflection on social media in general, this show is both terrifying and hilarious, and simultaneously thrilling and introspective.

Charlotte works her full-house crowd with ease, with a performance style that is high energy and comedy that is self-deprecating. Very likeable, we accept her as she and relate to her warmth.

An energy filled hour that raises many issues; a dark comedy with a bitter edge. This is well worth missing an hour of social media to see.
