I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change
Pristine Productions’ I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change is one of those unfortunate shows that has suffered two separate Covid delays - for different lockdowns. It is making up for this by presenting this great little show in two short seasons. This one, in conjunction with Playlovers, is playing in the cosy space at the Actors Hub, with a return season in August in its originally intended venue, Downstairs at the Maj.
This vignette style musical tells of the ups and downs of relationships, from the first date, to beyond the grave, and is both hilariously funny and very poignant. Presented by a very talented, mature and experienced cast, who play a multitude of characters with aplomb and handle quick changes with ease, this is pacy and good fun.
The cast of four work beautifully as a team, sing superbly and have wonderful presence. Great work from Alex McLennan (whose visit to his young parent friends is especially funny), Casey Edwards (watch for her moody teen amongst a slew of great characters), Gillian Binks (whose Aussie mum is particularly loveable) and Robert Pring (whose late-in-life scene with Casey is another highlight).
The show is accompanied by Musical Director Glenn Hogue on piano with Emily Gelineu on violin. Playing is superb, but on opening night balance wasn’t always perfect - a shame as the lyrics in this show are a joy.
Absolutely worth catching at the August Season, I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change is a great show to share with your lover or ex-lover - very funny and a delight for the ears.
