I Feel Fine
I Feel Fine is a service at the Church of the Anthroposcene, a place to repair our relationship with the world. This production, by performance collective ‘public service announcement’, is an opportunity to repent for humanity's effect on the world, in this era when humans have become the most dominant force on the planet.
While this is a strong statement about climate change and a need for positive action, this funny, irreverent and hopeful little show is also an examination of the eco-anxious and a show of support for those who need reassurance. A wild ride that blends Catholic Youth Mass with a touch of cult and a good dose of crazy, this is a warm, shared experience that provides much food for thought.
Excellent ensemble work from the cast, who have a lovely camaraderie. Isaac Diamond shares a beautiful voice and excellent comic timing, Jacob Gregory has outstanding facial expression, especially during the ‘moving’ play within a play - in which Kylie Bywaters’ coarse acting shines. Simone Detourbet’s performance as a pineapple is a highlight, while Amelia Burke’s ability to charm the ‘congregation’ is outstanding.
Kaitlin Brindley’s nature inspired set and costuming were beautifully appropriate, and the use of retro-technology was excellent, with some lovely surprises in this area.
I Feel Fine is a church service that has much to say, and thoroughly entertains along the way. A funny, feel-good show that packs a big punch.
