HUMANS

HUMANS
Circa. Playhouse, QPAC. December 6 - 9, 2017

In capturing so many facets of the human spirit and journey, Circa accomplish what many can only dream of in 70 minutes, with acrobatics and physical human strength that has to be seen to be believed.

Creator Yaron Lifschitz brings together the pure essence of life with ten stunning performers showcasing the incredible world of contemporary circus. From tumbles through to performers defying the laws of gravity by balancing on each other, every part of this performance combines to create jaw-dropping and intense theatre.

A minimalistic approach to a bare set and costuming brings forth the true message behind the work, a moving production instilling within the audience the ferociousness of the human soul. While it was refreshing to have a shorter performance grace the stage at QPAC, the quality of the work Circa have created is perfect for all age groups.

The choreography in this performance is nothing short of spectacular. While I will assume it was a joint effort between performers and creator, Lifschitz, the commitment to the piece deserves the highest level of praise. Every move, turn, look and expression was mapped perfectly, making it flow together in a truly beautiful way.

It is not your traditional circus show, so if you are expecting clowns and elephants, leave that idea behind. What you are going to see is athleticism at its peak, with a creative team second to none. This work truly brings forward the future of circus and with Circa at the helm, creating work like HUMANS. It is an exciting time in the Arts world.
