How to Co-host A Murder
A jazz-era romp, with a murder in a Speak-easy, this homage to musicals, produced by APAN Entertainment, keeps the audience involved in a fun, feel good show.
When Detective Rick Racy (a matinee-idol like Nic Cruise) and his offsider Officer Johnny Broderick (an earnest Lloyd Hopkins) raid the Caught On Club, they plan to arrest the performers and the patrons for a raft of prohibition-era offences, but the discovery of the murder of chanteuse Millie Halliday, has them investigating a murder instead,
Is the murderer (or murderess) the youthful emcee Freddie (a very personable Hamish Briggs), the sweet performer Babydoll (a lovely Andrea Lim), mysterious club manager Mama (a formidable Rikki Martin), wanna-be star and cigarette girl Audrey (a focused Madeleine Shaw) or the mysterious and silent pianist Bobby (a 'well-played’ Ben Todd)? Of course it could also be any of the chorines (Katy Astle, Nikita D’Souza, Tash Klarich, Shania Lindau), whose reputation is less than pristine.
Cleverly using the whole space in the Ellington Jazz Club, the show, written by director Nicole Stinton, incorporates lots of songs well-known to musical theatre fans, mostly from shows set in the 20s and 30s - giving a fresh feel to familiar favourites.
This show is a little sweetie, with just a hint of the naughty. A great chance to feel part of the action, relax and have a good time.
