Fuccbois: Live in Concert
Fuccbois: replace the second ‘c’ with a ‘k’ (and the ‘i’ with a ‘y’), and you’re up to speed with this amazing all-female musical appearing in the New Works Festival at the Old Fitz Theatre in Sydney. The quality and quantity of the songs by Bridie Connell make this an exceptional piece of work and the 4-person Fuccbois group itself is nothing short of a miracle of sound and movement.
It seems that this is going to be the British (plus one Irish member) group’s final concert after years of successful touring and the fans are out in force with their placards and their shouted comments. Always ready for action, the Fuccbois shout back. It’s really quite delicious how they counter all available comments.
They present all their hits (there’s 10 of them!) with great vivacity, under director Jessica Fallico, with music production and sound by David Muratore, and choreography by Jamie Winbank, and I just went along with the whole conceit of the show: these lads sang and danced exactly as they presented – as top of the pops.
Congratulations to Bridie Connell, Gabbi Bolt, Megan Walshe and Clara Harrison: with their unshaven beards and slouchy clothes, they certainly hit the heights. Always posturing with heaps of emotion (and narcissism) they sing and dance their way to boy band heaven.
But I’m not sure about the format. It’s their last show ever, so what’s their producer (Orya Golgowsky) complaining about, and why/what is she insisting they get right at this last moment?
Never mind, the the show looks great (Lighting: Tim Hope, Set: Elle Fitzgerald) and the audience just lapped it up. Applause at the end could have extended for many, many minutes.
Bridie Connell is an exceptional writer of Boy Band and theatrical music. May she develop and write many more shows with her undeniable ear for exactly the perfect note.
