Everything Flickers
Presented at the Blue Room by stop, drop, and roll theatre company, Everything Flickers is a striking examination of art that asks important questions but is self-aware and doesn’t take itself too seriously despite its poignant and important message. A warm and embracing piece of theatre, it is a joy to watch.
Performed by William Gammel, Nathan Calvert and Clea Perkis, who also devised the piece in conjunction with director Eliza Smith, the piece also includes input and performance from Stage Manager Delaney Burke, as it uses art, dance, film, live music, traditional theatre techniques and contemporary performance, to examine what it is to be an artist.
This promenade performance takes place as though you were walking through an art gallery with times that audience are free to sit, stand, or walk through the space,
An examination of art, the making of art, and the challenge of making arts as the funding is diminishing and the culture devalues arts as a vocation - this could be a very glum piece, but it's celebration of art, even art that is ruined, means that this piece is a pleasure to watch. Lots of surprises, which I am loathe to ruin.
The performance team have excellent rapport and work the audience well, often with direct addresses to the audience and some low-key audience participation.
If you value the place of art of all kinds in our society and enjoy your theatre a little bit different, you will enjoy Everything Flickers.
